Underfloor Heating Glossary
BEAB Mark - The BEAB Approved Mark is an electrical safety mark. It demonstrates that BEAB specialists have evaluated a product to the highest European and International standards.
CE Marking - A mandatory conformity mark certifying that a given product meets the EU requirements to be placed in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Contactor - Electromechanical device that allows the command of a power or control circuit.
ECTFE (Ethylene chlorotrifluoroethlyene) - Is an insulation material used in our heaters. It is a fluorocarbon-based polymer (a fluoropolymer), a kind of plastic
Junction Box - A container for electrical conexions. Should be used when more than one mat or cable are connected to the same thermostat.
Mirror Demister - Heating acessory fitted in the back of the mirrors whose main function is to avoid condensation to appear.
RCD (Residual Current Device) - According to the electrical regulations, all electrical underfloor heating systems must now be protected by an RCD, having a rated residual current not exceeding 30mA. RCDs are designed to prevent electrocution by detecting the leakage current. An RCD is an electrical wiring device that disconnects a circuit whenever it detects that the electric current is not balanced between the energized conductor and the return neutral conductor. A residual current operated device is not intended to provide protection against overload or short-circuit.
Thermostat - Device for regulating the temperature of a system so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired setpoint temperature. The thermostat does this by controlling the flow of heat energy into or out of the system. That is, the thermostat switches heating or cooling devices on or off as needed to maintain the correct temperature. All our thermostats have the Warmup logo branded on them.
Towel Heater - Accessory whose main function is to dry towels. Also known as towel rail heater, towel warmer or towel radiator.
